Stock photography can be expensive and sometimes it's absolutely worth it, especially if you have a very specific photo needed for a project. Luckily though, free stock sites are popping up everywhere and I've put together a list of the best resources that I use for free stock images.
Please note that while many of these photographs are free from copyright restrictions or licensed under creative commons public domain dedication, this means you can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission....BUT, some photos may require attribution (means you hpixabay.com/ave to give a shoutout to the owner of the material).

Do you snuggle with your dictionary at night? Do you like long, complicated, fancy words? If your answer is yes, you are a #wordnerd and the powers that be made a "fun" holiday just for weirdos like you. #January9 is National Word Nerd Day.
In honor of this day, I will call my Grandpa and celebrate the time he played the word "warbonnet" on TWO triple word scores and murdered me at Scrabble back in 1992.
Celebrate today by being proud of your supreme nerdiness. Use words no less than 7 letters long in all your conversations. If that's too easy for you, I challenge you to use words that are no less than 7 letters long in every single sentence. Do crosswords and play word puzzles all day long or challenge me to a new match on Stop. I'll kick your butt.
If you LOVE a word nerd, I'm so sorry. But here are 28 Gifts for the Word Lover (Buzzfeed).
You guys know how obsessed I am with color palettes! How is it that I just discovered the PANTONE Studio app? You can build color palettes of up to five colors, by selecting from color guides, extracting colors from photos and images (like I've done here just by walking around the house with the app open), searching by color number, and by interacting with other custom Pantone palettes. I think this is a really fun tool for amateur and pro designers, quilters, interior designers, almost anyone who uses and LOVES color, fabric, paper, etc.
What is Pantone? (Source: http://www.colorguides.net/pantone.html)
Pantone is a standardized color matching system, utilizing the Pantone numbering system for identifying colors. By standardizing the colors, different manufacturers in different locations can all reference a Pantone numbered color, making sure colors match without direct contact with one another. The most commonly referenced colors are in the Pantone solids palette. The Pantone Solid palette consists of 1,114 colors, identified by three or four digit numbers, followed by a C, U, Or M suffix.. Originally designed for the graphics industry, the pantone solids palette is now used by a wide range of industries, and is the most commonly used palette.
Half-page full color double-sided flyer for Aysu Skincare Tattoo Butter. I've been with Aysu since the beginning and love their all natural organic products so much that I use them myself. I even had to get my teen daughter her own so that she'd stop borrowing mine.
If you're a Seattle local, you can now get Aysu Tattoo Butter at Fair Warning Tattoo or online in the Aysu Etsy Shop.
This lush and healing butter will help restore and moisturize your fragile skin. It's a great time to go get a gorgeous tattoo and some Tattoo Butter!
This guy makes amazing stuff with his hands for businesses across the nation and in peoples' homes as well. His specialties are terrazzo, steel/metal fabrication, and concrete. His art can be seen at Amazon, Google, Cactus Restaurants, Specialties Cafes, Kansas State University and many more places. He has also collaborated with local artists such as Yuri Kinoshita.
He recently asked me to create a half page double-sided brochure showcasing his work. Which one do you like best?
Recently I was asked to design a print and digital catalog for With Love, a non-profit in Oregon that supports foster families. This amazing organization lends aid to foster children and their foster families by providing safe, clean and quality clothing and supplies to children ages 0 - 5.
I was absolutely thrilled to tackle this project with such a wonderful team of generous people and you can now access the digital catalog here.

This is so very embarrassing.
I recently went to a really important meeting with a marketing agency to work on a collaboration and I was asked 3 different times for my business card. I haven't carried a business card in probably a decade. Talk about feeling caught with my pants down!
As someone whose daily grind is to create business cards for people, you'd think that I'd be more prepared but I was humbled by my own aloofness. I felt like an amateur.
Business cards seem irrelevant in this digital age. Personally I hate extra scraps of paper lying around so the information gets put into my phone and then tossed. But, after this experience, I did some research and am convinced that business cards are still essential. Here is why:
When it comes to designing your card, you want to make sure yours stands out. People these days are really thinking outside of the box - some are even made of chocolate!
Ways to make your business card stand out:
Head over to my Pinterest to see some really creative, unique business cards that I absolutely ADORE.
I was recently approached by With Love, a non-profit in Oregon to help out with a digital and print catalog featuring the items in their Amazon registry (where patrons can purchase items for foster families).
Any time I am able to work with these wonderful people, I am so excited to do so. With Love, is a not-for-profit, foster care resource providing for many of the physical needs that come with caring for children. Their goal is to promote an aura of dignity and honor to those who embrace local children in need of a family. It runs on volunteers and generosity and love just radiates from within the organization.
If you have a moment to check out With Love, donate, or volunteer, it's a great organization and a great cause.
I tell you what:
